The kazoo band marches in the Old Home Days parade in Newfield last year. This year’s parade will kick off at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, running on Main Street.

As it has since its inception in the 1920s, Newfield’s Old Home Days will once again celebrate the community. The event will take place Friday, July 28, and Saturday, July 29.
All events will take place on the Newfield Central School grounds.

The largest celebration of the year, attended by around 2,000 people, Old Home Days not only showcases the talent of local residents, but also benefits the organizations and schools that provide the foundation of the town. Many of the vendors are non-profit organizations and school classes, earning money for trips and other projects, and local music groups get the chance to shine on stage.

Festivities kick off on Friday, July 28, when the Newfield Lions Club Food Tent opens at 5 p.m.; a 3-on-3 basketball tournament gets underway at 5:30 p.m.
The first of the local bands playing throughout the weekend will be Under Construction, which takes the stage from 6-8 p.m. Also taking place Friday night is a Wizard of Oz costume contest at 7 p.m., followed by a free showing of the Wizard of Oz, which will take place in the Newfield High School Auditorium.

On Saturday, July 29, the Old Home Days parade will start things off at 11 a.m., running from Tioga State Bank on Main Street to Newfield Central School. The parade will be followed by the Fireman’s Water Ball Contest (behind the elementary school) at noon, which is when the Youth Recreation Committee chicken barbecue (running until the chicken is gone) and the Kid’s Barrel Train Rides (which runs until 4 p.m.) will start.
Also starting at noon will be the music performers of the day, with Dapper Dan taking the stage until 2 p.m.; they will be followed by NEO Project from 2:30-5 p.m. and Other Self from 6-8 p.m.

Kellogg’s Corners School will be open from 12:30-6 p.m., and the Kids Pedal Tractor pull will take place at 12:30 p.m. near the flagpole. At 4 p.m. will be the Ping Pong Ball Drop, the Giant Slip and Slide will open at 4:30 p.m. and the basket raffle drawings will take place at 5:30 p.m.
All day long on Saturday will feature Grey Biological Reptiles, many food and craft vendors, information booths, games, bounce house, a cake wheel and a dunking booth.

Capping off Saturday – and Old Home Days – will be the fireworks display, which will take place around 9 p.m.
