I am very pleased to find among the candidates seeking election this Fall one that I can unequivocally and enthusiastically support. I have known Bruno Shickel for over 30 years. Born and raised in Dryden, he is a successful builder and the developer of an innovative housing community. He has built his business on the principle of low cost/high value, a principle which I think will serve us well in town government.
For as long as I have known him, Bruno has found time for civic involvement where he has demonstrated intelligence, a positive attitude and a willingness to listen, bringing people with diverse opinions together and, at the end of the day, getting the job done. Recent examples include the Montgomery Park Playground project where he served as a lead coordinator working countless hours behind the scenes to make sure the pieces fell into place when the time came, in addition to joining in the physical work as this great community project came to life.
Another recent example is the extension of the Rails to Trails Project (Jim Schug Trail) from Dryden to Freeville and beyond. As vice chair of Dryden Rail Trail Task Force, he was instrumental in overcoming longstanding obstacles, soliciting resources from colleagues in the construction industry and bringing together volunteers and contributions to actually build the trail which is now at long last open.
In its supervisor, the Town of Dryden badly needs the abilities Bruno has demonstrated over a lifetime in the Dryden community. I encourage voters to review his record and I think, if they do so, they will conclude, as I have, that he has earned our confidence and our votes.
