Tompkins Weekly Staff

Now available for public review and comment is a plan outlining how the Tompkins County Department of Social Services will operate programs to provide employment services to recipients of Temporary Assistance and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs. The two-year plan is an outline of the ways these recipients of assistance will be prepared for self-sufficiency and employment. The Department of Social Services for the State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance prepared the plan, which includes summaries of current work development, training and education programs the county provides or contracts out through other agencies.

The public is invited to comment on the plan, which covers two calendar years from Jan. 1, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2019. Written comments should be directed to the Department of Social Services at 320 W. Martin Luther King, Jr./State St. in Ithaca. Comments, which can also be faxed to 274-5227 or emailed to Kit Kephart at, will be accepted until 30 days after Jan. 3.

Anyone looking to review the plan can find copies at the department of Social Services Offices, and the Tompkins County Public library front desk at 101 East Green St. in Ithaca. Copies can also be requested from Gerard Veninsky at and the above address.
