Letters to the editor: Community Leaders support students

As active members of the Community Leaders of Color (CLOC), we write in solidarity and steadfast support for the high school students who wrote letters of concern and protest, published in Tompkins Weekly, and who continue to speak strongly and clearly about the racial bias that apparently exists within the Performing Arts Program at Ithaca High School.

To the students, we want to clearly express that we are listening, we hear you, and we stand with you.

To the ICSD administration and members of the Board of Education, we sincerely hope that you will take the expectations and recommendations of the students seriously. We expect that you will take the necessary actions to review their stated concerns about the Performing Arts Program. We encourage you to seek assistance in determining how to eliminate the racial bias and create a fair, inclusive and equitable process before more students are hurt and discouraged from participating.

Sincerely, Community Leaders of Color: Marcia Baum, Pastor Ronald Benson, Laura Branca, Phoebe Brown, Audrey J. Cooper, Kirby Edmonds, Karl Graham, Gibrian Hagood, Leslyn McBean-Clairborne, Davi Mozie, Schelley Nunn, Rev. Nathaniel Wright, Karen Yearwood
