By Tim Donnelly
Recently on ESPN Ithaca’s Between the Lines, host Tim Donnelly spoke with Xander DiNapoli of the Ithaca High School Hockey Team. DiNapoli is a senior captain of the team. Here is a snippet of that conversation; to hear the full interview, visit ESPN Ithaca’s on-demand PodCenter at ESPNIthaca.com.
Tim Donnelly: Xander, you’ve had five points on three goals and two assists over your past three games including an upset win over ranked Cortland-Homer. How have you been able to ride the momentum across a couple games to have a really strong showing?
Xander DiNapoli: It starts with all the teammates. You know we all build off each other. I know I build a lot off of their momentum going into those games and we had plenty of good outcomes during those games and the fortune started turning in our favor.
TD: What is the comradery like within your squad, within your line, when you guys really have it going like you do right now?
XD: Oh, it’s great. I mean, we’re all buzzing out there. We’re all talking to each other and we just like to make sure that we are all doing the best that we can to make sure we get as many chances as we can to score.
TD: I know that you are a senior captain. How has that changed your approach this season from seasons in the past, knowing that this is your last go around with the Ithaca High School hockey team and that you are expected to be a leader?
XD: You know, I’d like to think that it doesn’t affect it too much, but I also know that it’s my last chance to put it all out there. I want to make sure that I’m doing everything I can for the coaches and the team to make sure that we’re going to do the best that we can this season.
