Youth between the ages of 8 – 18 who have a sincere interest in raising and learning about the Buckeye breed are asked to complete a short “Heritage Chicken Application”. Applicants do not need to live in the Dryden area but must commit to participation in the identified activities. One youth will be selected to receive the six chicks, a trough feeder, water jug and 50 #’s of chick starter/grower. The recipient will be expected to join the 4-H Poultry Club, bring the birds for evaluation and exhibition at the 4-H Youth Fair, present their birds and knowledge gained at community programs about heritage chickens at the Dryden Town Historical Society Heritage Day and the Southworth Library. Applications are available at Dryden Agway. The deadline for applications to be returned to the store is February 22. Recipients will be notified by March 1st, and pick up of the chicks is March 16.
