Ithaca Fest seeking art submissions

Posted

Ithaca Festival 2019, scheduled to take place May 30 through June 2, is in search of submissions from artists and graphic designers.

According to a release from festival organizers, “Our mission is to encourage the artist in everyone, and so each year we choose a design that best reflects our community and the theme for the year. This year’s theme ‘Full STEAM Ahead!’ speaks to the recent boom in development and the local economy, and to the variety of local enterprises dedicated to STEAM; Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. We are also celebrating the history of progressive technology in Ithaca from trains, planes, and hydroelectricity to modern day renewable energy, cooperative economics, and high tech ventures. Shoot for the stars and send us your best ideas.”

The art will need to be readable in a variety of sizes; small enough for buttons but big enough for banners. The festival is encouraging submissions from artists of all ages, races, genders, ability, or means to submit work. Artists must submit three other examples of previous artwork or design work, or a link to an online portfolio. Along with a concept sketch, artists will need to submit a short statement about themselves, their art, and the idea behind their design.

In addition, the festival is seeking submissions from youth ages 18 and younger to create artwork for a special run of merchandise and t-shirts.

Deadline
Artwork needs to be submitted no later than Thursday, Feb. 28. Artists will need to fill out a form at bit.ly/Ithaca-Festival-2019-Artwork which includes a place to share a link to the concept sketch. For artists who cannot submit online, or prefer not to, art can be mailed to PO Box 6713, Ithaca NY, 14850. Concept images must be in the following format: JPG, RBG mode, minimum 72 dpi, and 1500 pixels.

The winning adult artist will receive a $500 cash prize, and the youth winner will receive $100.
