Recently on ESPN Ithaca’s Between the Lines, host Tim Donnelly spoke with Trumansburg Soccer Player Conor Baird. Baird recently went on a goal-scoring streak that included a hat trick against Odessa-Montour. Here is a snippet of that conversation; to hear the full interview, visit ESPN Ithaca’s on-demand PodCenter at ESPNIthaca.com.

Tim Donnelly: A big week for you individually, but a couple of wins for your team as well. How was your squad able to pull out the two victories to stay undefeated?
Conor Baird: Well, we all just had the mentality that we needed to go into those games and do the best we could and we pulled it together and came out with the win.

TD: Now, I had the opportunity to listen in to your Odessa-Montour game and that game couldn’t have started better for you and your teammates. You have four goals as a team, three individually, in what seemed like the first two or three minutes, I think it was actually 10 or 11 minutes. What is it like to come out of the gates absolutely cruising like that?
CB: Well, when we are all just grinding our gears and going as hard as we can everything just comes together. It’s not just me, it’s everybody on the field.

TD: When you have a game like that, where things are going your way, does the goal get bigger for you? Do you hunt for your shot more? How do you end with three goals in, seemingly, the first few moments of a game?
CB: Well, when I have a mid-field like we do and the ball just keeps getting played to me, I gotta do what I gotta do.

TD: What does it mean that they have the confidence in you to keep playing it to you up like that and they’ll trust you to put it in the back of the net?
CB: It feels good because I know they have the trust in me and I have the trust in them and that’s just why we perform like we do.
