STRINGS FOR STEWART PARK
Musicians from Ithaca College, Cornell University, and the Ithaca community, present Strings for Stewart Park, an evening of traditional and original music. The unique town-gown collaboration benefits Stewart Park revitalization. Strings for Stewart Park features an eclectic blend of fiddle and violin music with guitar, mandolin and bass accompaniment. Performers include Cornell's Ariana Kim, Ithaca College's Susan Waterbury, and Ithaca musicians Judy Hyman, Tim Ball, Dave Davies, and Rick Manning, with Will Russell on sound engineering.
The concert supports Friends of Stewart Park’s ongoing revitalization of Stewart Park, including future plans to recreate the historic park’s historic performance venue. In the early days of Stewart Park -- known as Renwick Park prior to 1921 -- the area between the Picnic “Large” Pavilion and the Wharton Studio building was the site of a beautiful bandshell that regularly hosted concert events performed by the renowned Paddy Conway Orchestra, and others. Friends of Stewart Park plans to create Renwick Performance Plaza, as well as an Overlook of Cayuga Lake, to replace the existing asphalt parking lot.
