Nominations are now being accepted for Tompkins Connect’s Third annual Fab5 Awards.

 

The awards, sponsored by Tompkins Trust Company and supported by the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce and United Way, honor five young professionals between the ages 21-40 in Tompkins County.

 

The nominations are open to the whole community in the categories of Young Professional Entrepreneur, Young Professional Not-for- Profit Leader, Young Professional Businesses Leader, Young Professional Volunteer, and Young Professional Rookie of the Year. During the past two years, 10 winners have been selected from more than 300 nominations. All winners will be celebrated at Coltivare on February 26, 2018.

 

“We are fortunate to live in a place with an abundance of talented, creative, and tenacious young professionals whom have started successful business endeavors, run and won local political office, and have made an impact on the lives of others,” said Steph Bailey, Chamber events and programs manager, in a prepared statement. “We look forward to reading this year’s nominations and honoring the next class of Fab5 winners.”

 

For a more detailed description of what each award is for, read on:

Entrepreneur of the Year – an individual who has managed a new business venture, taking on personal risk to do so, and is deserving of additional recognition due to their entrepreneurial spirit.

 

Not-for-Profit Leader of the Year – an individual who has shown a remarkable aptitude for leadership in a not-for-profit organization.

 

Business Leader of the Year – an individual who has excelled in demonstrating their leadership ability as a business professional in the Tompkins County area.

 

Volunteer of the Year – an individual who deserves additional recognition for their exceptional performance while volunteering in the Tompkins County Community.

 

Rookie of the Year – an individual who has recently taken on a new position or freshly entered the workforce altogether. During this time, this person has demonstrated noteworthy performance and deserves to be acknowledged.

 

Tompkins Connect is a local young professional organization, which was formed in 2010 and currently has more than 700 members, is housed within two organizations – The United Way of Tompkins County and the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce. Their mission is to “connect, educate, engage, and inspire a diverse group of young professionals and emerging leaders in a culture of social consciousness and leadership development that will benefit the not-for- profit community.”
