What Caught My Eye: Forward to Flushing and baseball battlefield

Little Red bound for Flushing
The Ithaca High School’s boy’s tennis team, fresh off of a dominant showing to win the Section IV title, are sending two doubles team and a singles player to the state tournament. Aiden Campbell and Felix Shi topped teammates Dennis Kang and Quinn Tonole in state qualifiers, as both teams will advance to States. David Riccio had a tough draw in the finals, but his second place finish earned him the right to keep playing. It’s safe to say that there is a culture of winning, at Ithaca, that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.

IC bounced from regional
The Bombers’ baseball team looked ready to go into the NCAA Regional, but failed to produce offensively, costing them the season. A 31-7 record and an Empire 8 title is certainly a great resume to take into the NCAA tournament. The 0-2 record in the regional round really puts a damper on the overall season. Take nothing away from the Bombers, they put together a terrific season, but the postseason performance leaves a hole that will have to wait a year to be filled.

Bring on the baseball!
It’s about time! The Section IV Baseball tournament starts Friday, and I couldn’t be more excited. We’ve seen all of our local teams battling for positions in the IAC divisional races, but now the stakes are the highest they have been all season. Every player needs to be at the top of his game if he wants to see the team keep playing, from this point forward. When the pressure is on, we are guaranteed to see competitive and thrilling contests for the right to be called Section IV Champions.
