What caught my eye: It’s the summer of soccer and it’s time to kick it off!

A goal for next season
The Ithaca Little Red girl’s lacrosse team entered the regional matchup, against Baldwinsville, with only one loss in New York competition, that being to Baldwinsville. The Little Red was unable to reverse the previous result, seeing their season come to an end with a loss. While the team is losing key seniors next year, the underclassmen have already proven that this team will be back, and they will be out for revenge.

Tough one to swallow
If you are a soccer fan, chances are you spent your weekend watching the UEFA Champions League Final, and you know where I’m going with this. Losing a game on a penalty is hard enough to swallow, but a ball that deflects off of a defender’s chest and brushes his arm, that’s another level entirely. Was Liverpool the better team than Tottenham? Yes. Is that the way anyone wants to see a game decided? No. The penalty was an interesting and off-key mark for a game that ultimately ended up being more on the boring side than entertaining.

Don’t worry, help is on the way
The US Men’s National Team is finalizing its roster for the beginning of the CONCACAF Gold Cup in two weeks. The team will spend Wednesday night tuning up for the tournament with a send-off fixture against Jamaica. The roster, when it was released, scared some people because of the lack of two of the biggest names in US Soccer, Christian Pulisic and Tyler Adams. Don’t worry. The two stars will be in the starting 11 for the opening match against Guyana. After a long season in the German Bundesliga, both have earned some rest before the real competition begins.
