What caught my eye: States, LAX, and a much-needed rest

Miller prepares for outdoor track season with indoor finish
Dryden’s Emily Miller had a strong showing at the state indoor track and field meet over the weekend. She settled into her groove with the field in the 3000 meters and came away with 22nd place in the public-school standings. Miller finished her race with a new personal record and a time of 10:56:21. We’ve seen what she can do through cross-country and indoor, and now the outdoor season is sure to bring another season of Emily Miller dominance.

Cornell Lacrosse in for a heavy weekend
The Big Red are 3-0 and have had a couple of close games so far, including the 17-16 win over Albany, but now we get to see what the Cornell is made of. This weekend the Big Red are taking on Towson and Penn State. Towson holds the top spot in the Division I polls and Penn State is fourth. These early performances will prove whether or not the Big Red is the same team that made a postseason run last year.

Some much-needed rest
The Men’s Hockey team at Cornell has taken its fair share of questions from me and other locals throughout the course of the season. It didn’t feel as though this was a team that could build enough momentum to put themselves in position for a strong postseason. Let me be the first to say, I was wrong. Despite not picking up the win that would have given them the number one seed in the conference tournament, the Big Red earned the second spot and a first-round bye. Cornell can catch a breather and rest up for the quarterfinal round on March 15.

The sun will come out tomorrow
The spring sports season is finally here! It’s been a long and dreary winter, and I am so excited to be able to get back outside and watch local high school and college sports.
