Ithaca-based moxy rock band Maddy Walsh & The Blind Spots are celebrating a major milestone: two of their songs have been licensed for the upcoming feature film Out of Order, starring Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Sam Huntington, Brooke Shields, and Luis Guzmán. The film premiered October 15, 2025 at the Chelsea Film Festival in New York City.

The film features “Hey, Boy” (from the band’s 2015 album Rhizomatic) and “Bliss Seeker” (from Talk, 2018). Out of Order, directed by Guy Jacobson, is a 95-minute comedy that follows a desperate young lawyer juggling two jobs, two bosses, and one supermodel ex in “the world’s most unethical rom-com.”

Also featured on the film’s soundtrack is music by Australian pop star Delta Goodrem, adding to a lineup that blends global pop power with independent artistry.

Director Guy Jacobson tells us, “Out of Order was always intended to be a throwback to classic situational comedies of the 80s and 90s, a la My Cousin Vinny, A Fish Called Wanda, and Mrs. Doubtfire. However, I knew the film couldn’t be completely retro otherwise it may not resonate with today’s younger audiences. So when it came time to put together our soundtrack I knew we needed some more contemporary songs to help the film feel fresh and classic all at the same time. Maddy Walsh & The Blind Spots are an excellent up-and-coming band with fresh beats and a poppy sound that made them a no-brainer for inclusion on the soundtrack to help us accomplish our goal of bringing a classical film to a modern audience. We were beyond fortunate to have Australian Mega star Delta Goodrem allow us to use her two recent hits, ‘Hearts On the Run’ and ‘Back to Your Heart’ as the opening and closing songs for the film. This combination made for a killer soundtrack.”

The Out of Order premiere will take place at Regal 14th Street (Auditorium 17) in New York City. Doors open at 6:00 PM, followed by the ceremony at 7:00 PM, and a Q&A session with the filmmaker and cast. The event is black tie only.

Formed in 2008, Maddy Walsh & The Blind Spots have toured nationally since 2013, releasing four studio albums (with a fifth on the way), several singles and music videos, and two solo albums by lead singer and songwriter Maddy Walsh. Known for Walsh’s powerhouse vocals and their vibrant, inclusive, love-forward live shows, the band continues to call Ithaca, New York home.

“We’re so excited to see our work picked up by a major film,” said Walsh. “Licensing our music is a part of the business that’s intrigued me for years, and what a delight to hear these songs we wrote—and still perform live—providing the sonic landscape to pivotal scenes in this hilarious movie. While we don’t shy away from writing about serious subjects too, The Blind Spots have always thrived on providing fun, and this film is FUN. I hope it’s a trip for our fans to hear these tunes accompanying scenes on the big screen. It certainly is for us!” With this cinematic debut, the band looks forward to connecting with new audiences while continuing to craft their signature sound.
