Letters: Expressing support for Reed Steberger
I am writing to express my support for Reed Steberger to represent District 4 of the Tompkins County Legislature.
As a young public health professional, I admire leaders who seek to holistically understand a community’s concerns and address them by taking the lead from the community and leveraging its strengths. Reed has a strong, documented background doing exactly that kind of work.
In their role as Program Coordinator at the Multicultural Resource Center, Reed have excelled at advancing social justice issues in our community. They do so by listening deeply, facilitating compassionate conversations, and synthesizing feedback into effective and actionable plans. One example of Reed’s laudable work is their redesign of the MRC’s Talking Circles on Race and Racism. Reed sought constructive criticism from community members, collaborated on a team of skilled facilitators, and worked to thoughtfully craft a new workshop design that better meets the needs of all participants.
Reed’s work on the Talking Circles is just one example of brave, transformative and collaborative work they are taking on. As our District 4 representative, I have no doubt that Reed would advocate passionately on the behalf of every resident and elevate our community with their progressive platform. Please join me in casting your vote for Reed Steberger on September 12.
