Redevelopment to start on Tompkins Center for History & Culture

Reconstruction is expected to start this month on the upcoming Tompkins Center for History and Culture, which will house multiple local non-profit organizations and cultural organizations like the History Center of Tompkins County. In a ceremony, last Monday, July 2, several of the big players involved in the new center thanked the community and their many partners that made the move possible.

The center will be taking over the former Tompkins Trust Company building in bank alley, since Tompkins Trust has moved into their brand-new building just around the corner, across Seneca Street. Director of the History Center, Rod Howe, said they expect the center’s tenants to be able to move in by the end of the year and open the new center early next year.
After its centennial flight in September, the newly rebuilt Tommy bi-plane will be housed permanently on the first floor of the new center.
