Adam Heck Annual Soccer Camp concludes 25th year

The Adam Heck Annual Soccer Camp recently completed its 25th year Aug. 6 at the Lansing Town Hall fields. The camp is run by Lansing varsity soccer coaches Benji Parkes and Eric Stickel in honor of former coach Adam Heck, who tragically died in 2016. This year was one of the camp’s most successful, with 260 participants from kindergarten through 10th grade. Stickel gave his thoughts on helping coach Heck’s legacy carry on. “I think coach Parkes and I, we both wish that [Heck] was here to see 260 kids running around,” he said. “It wouldn’t be possible without the backing of coach Heck’s family, the rec department and the community that we have here in Lansing. We’re just fortunate to keep carrying all the principles coach Heck laid out for us, and here we are with 260 kids, it’s fantastic.” Last year’s camp was limited due to COVID-19, so drawing 260 players to the camp is a great sign for years to come. Coach Stickel’s goal is to have 261 participants in 2022.
