Beginnings Credit Union recently held a celebratory ribbon cutting at its branch in Ithaca Commons, marking the completion of the branch’s aesthetic transformation from CFCU Community Credit Union to Beginnings.

Held in partnership with Tompkins Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Ithaca Alliance (DIA), branch members, employees, and members of the chamber enjoyed a Business After Hours event following the ribbon cutting, catered by Serendipity Catering.

“This was a wonderful way to personally introduce the Beginnings brand to our Commons Branch members and connect with the Ithaca community in celebrating a milestone,” said Katie Foley, vice president of marketing and sales at Beginnings Credit Union.

Beginnings Credit Union, founded in 1953, serves nearly 77,000 members. With $1.4 billion in assets and 15 locations, Beginnings is one of the largest credit unions in New York State. Through financial literacy programs, community partnerships, competitive rates, trusted products, and passionate staff, Beginnings is committed to connecting people with financial opportunities that unlock possibilities and move communities forward.

The branch in the Commons, located at 202 E State St., had been undergoing updates since the credit union first announced the anticipated rebrand from CFCU to Beginnings in April. The official name change occurred July 1.

Featured speakers included Foley, Tompkins Chamber President Peggy Coleman, and CEO of DIA Nan Rohrer.

“I have been part of a credit union rebrand in the past, and I can honestly say that the level of energy and excitement from members and staff about the Beginnings rebrand is unmatched,” said Michael D’Angelo, vice president of member experience at Beginnings Credit Union.

All branches are being updated throughout 2025, according to the credit union.
