Green Street Garage demolition ongoing

From now through February, Home Dairy Alley will be closed underneath the parking garage. Home Dairy Alley will remain open between Center Ithaca and Mate Factor. To get to or from the south side of Green Street to the Commons, all pedestrians will need to cross Green Street at the Cayuga Street intersection, follow the pedestrian path along the east side of City Hall and go through the scaffolding just south of Harolds Square. The existing crosswalk in front of the center of the garage will remain open to the extent required to serve Cinemapolis. Cinemapolis will remain open throughout construction, and all pedestrians will need to enter and exit Cinemapolis from the south side and through the crosswalk and light right in front of the building. Please also note that there will be short periods of time where the scaffolding just south of Harolds Square will have restricted access. It will be staffed by flaggers to restrict traffic only when sections of the garage immediately adjacent to the scaffolding are being dismantled and could potentially pose a hazard. Demolition of the western portion of the Green Street Garage (above) is currently underway. Garage reopening is anticipated for late fall 2021. The existing Green Street Garage will undergo demolition this summer to make way for much-needed improvements. When completed, the new garage will feature a total of seven levels of parking, with an increase of 95 spaces. This project comes in combination with the Asteri and the Ithacan development projects. Together, these projects will result in the construction of two 11-story buildings, with 181 permanently affordable living units above a community conference center and 200 market-rate apartments. These projects will transform Green Street with reimagined public spaces and much-needed infrastructure updates.
