Habitat for Humanity celebrates completion of first of two homes on Dart Drive

Habitat for Humanity will dedicate its first Dart Drive home Aug. 22, with a celebration for the new family and community volunteers who built it.

Many volunteers made the completion of this house at 4 Dart Drive possible, and Habitat for Humanity is inviting the public to a home dedication on Aug. 20 to celebrate.

Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins and Cortland Counties (Habitat) is inviting the community to a Home Dedication Celebration at 4 Dart Drive in Ithaca.

This house is the first of two new Habitat homes to be completed on Dart Drive. Another home of the same layout is currently under construction at 8 Dart Drive, with an estimated completion later in 2025.

Habitat will host a Home Dedication Celebration on Aug. 22, at noon; light lunch will be available. The community is invited to meet Habitat staff and volunteers, along with our first-time homebuyer Helen and her family. The dedication is also an opportunity to check out this brand-new, 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom, fully accessible home, completed by Habitat’s staff and hundreds of community volunteers. Habitat is thrilled to introduce this new house, and its new homeowner family, to the neighborhood.

Please note that there is no parking on Dart Drive itself; please park in the Planet Fitness plaza
lot (2309 N. Triphammer Rd.) and take the short walking path to Dart Dr. (When looking at
Planet Fitness turn to the right and you’ll see two yellow posts which mark a short walking path.
Take the path, turn right to follow the street around the curve, and you’ll find 4 Dart Drive)
Habitat for Humanity is a movement of people in our local area and around the world, working
together to build more prosperous and vibrant communities by making sure everyone has a
decent, safe, affordable place to call home.

Habitat builds, repairs, and finances safe, affordable homes, working alongside the individuals and families who buy them. Homebuyers engage in homeownership education, hands-on volunteer work, and borrow an affordable mortgage.

Habitat prices homes at a fair cost and offers innovative financial packages to keep the cost of
homeownership affordable, so mortgage payments cost less than 30% of household income.

Locally, Habitat has seven homebuyers participating in their affordable Homeownership
Program, and five active build sites in the Ithaca area. Habitat mobilizes hundreds of local
volunteers each year to build homes. The 4 Dart Drive project has been made possible in part
by the Community Housing Development Fund (a joint effort of Tompkins County, the City of
Ithaca and Cornell University), the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation, and the
Tompkins County Recovery Fund.
