Lansing Recreation Department plans summer camps

With the old Route 34B bridge down and cleared away, work crews have poured the concrete footings for the new bridge over Salmon Creek. The footings will be the foundation for the angled piers supporting the bridge deck. Completion of the bridge is scheduled for early 2022. Photo by Matt Montague.

Lansing Parks and Recreation will have summer camps this year, according to the department’s annual catalog of fun and learning released April 20.

In Brief:

Brush pickup May 3

The Town of Lansing Highway Department will begin picking up brush May 3 at 6 a.m. Residents are asked to pile brush loosely beside the road and include no plastic bags or leaves. Maximum limb diameter is 6 inches and length is 8 feet.

Why Ludlowville Road is closed

The Town of Lansing Highway Department has closed Ludlowville Road from house number 63 to the intersection with Brickyard Road to all forms of travel due to undermining of the road from heavy rains and snow.

“We are looking at options on how to maybe get this reopened,” Highway Superintendent Charlie Purcell said. “It will ultimately depend on the cost.”

Purcell added that an update on the road’s status will be available soon.

Lions plan Mothers’ Day BBQ, flower sale

The Lansing Lions will be hosting two events on Mother’s Day weekend. On Friday, May 7, they will host a chicken barbecue at the Lansing Town Hall beginning at 10:30 a.m. The dinner includes chicken, beans and salt potatoes for $10. Half chicken is $8.

They will also be selling hanging flower baskets at the Lansing Community Center — a perfect gift for mom, grandma or anyone you want to honor — beginning May 7 and continuing on through May 8. All proceeds will go to the Lansing Food Pantry and scholarships for kids to attend summer church camp.

Library friends holds barbecue

The Friends of the Lansing Community Library will hold a Hatfield chicken barbecue fundraiser May 8 from 10:30 a.m. until gone. A half chicken will be $8; a half-chicken dinner with salt potatoes and baked beans will be $10.

Funds raised will go toward the Friends, a group of volunteers who act independently of, but in conjunction with, the library’s trustees and the library manager, to preserve, promote and strengthen library services.
