Letter: Dryden Should Do Solar
I’ve been an Ellis Hollow resident for 42 years and believe that we must act locally to do our part to reduce the use of fossil fuels ASAP.
Nonetheless, I was concerned when Distributed Sun’s acres of solar arrays were proposed here in the Town of Dryden. I was afraid they’d ruin our rural landscape and way of life. After going to the meeting last night at the Ellis Hollow Community Center, my concerns are greatly reduced and my respect for the responsiveness of Distributed Sun company has greatly increased. They’ve listened to residents concerns and been wonderfully responsive.
The new plans have, among other things: Moved solar panels away from houses, changed to very normal rural fences, included wildlife corridors, included needed vegetative screening and explained why usable sites are so few. Now I feel greatly relieved that I can support the project wholeheartedly.
Now I say: If not here, where? If not now, when? and If not us, who? The Town of Dryden should be happy to work with Distributed Sun to make this solar project a reality here in our town now.
