Letter: In Support of Dryden Solar Arrays

We support plans to develop community solar arrays by Distributed Sun in the Town of Dryden. The community has had meetings with the developers that have corrected much misinformation. Changes have been made to take into account many objections, such as less obtrusive fencing, wildlife corridors added, setbacks from roads and residences increased, and added vegetative screening to soften views.

This project will not only increase the amount of renewable energy available to the community, reducing the carbon footprint and greenhouse gases, but will be available to the individual households and businesses, not Cornell. While the Cornell pieces of land are tax exempt, taxes will be paid by Distributed Sun to the town and Dryden schools. Construction of the arrays will create hundreds of local jobs; in the past this company has used union workers and we assume will do so again.

Global warming is advancing! There are goals for carbon neutral and reducing greenhouse gases but no organized plan. This project increases the amount of solar in a bigger way than our solar panels atop our house. If not now, when? For our children, Dryden must do this now.
