Letter to the editor: A day for Mourning

On July 4, 2024, 248 years after we declared our independence from England with its insane King and its oppressive Parliament, we are right back where we started: We are on the brink of being ruled by an insane megalomaniac who will never leave office aided and abetted by six radical oppressors on the Supreme Court

Trump has said he will be dictator “from Day One”, and the Six have given him absolute immunity for any of his “official acts”—with “official” to be defined by the Six. Given that, his term is likely to last as long as he lives.

The Six have also declared that they are the final deciders over what is a reasonable regulation by any federal agency. Better said, Goodbye to the application of science and expertise on questions involving safety, workplace, union representation, clean air& water, climate change and much more.

Then there is the new principle regarding bribes: “Get the payoff timed right, and it is not a bribe.”

Voter suppression and partisan gerrymandering are OK as long as, you guessed it, the Six say so. “Choice”? The Six have already dumped it with contraception to follow in due course.

Gun control? “Sure, as long as you can find it in the laws of the 1700’s”

As Kevin D. Roberts, President of the Heritage Foundation said last Tuesday , the country is “in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.”*

In short, this July 4 was a day for mourning.
