Letter: Vote Mike Lane for Legislature
Since the start of COVID, Tompkins County has been putting all its meetings on YouTube, and I’ve been able to watch a lot of them. I’ve learned how complex the issues are and how many different things our county government manages! The budget is about $195 million, and there are 27 different departments.
With this election, five of the 14 legislators will be retiring, and another five only have one term under their belts. That’s a very “young” board!
I think experience matters, especially when so many other legislators will be so new to the job. So I’ll be voting for Mike Lane to keep his seat representing us in eastern Dryden, including the villages of Dryden and Freeville.
Mike is already the “institutional memory” of the legislature, and that will be even more true as of January. He knows how things get done for us, and it will be important for the new legislators to have his experience to draw on. I can’t imagine trying to learn about 27 departments and a $195 million budget, without someone with Mike’s experience to lean on!
Let’s keep Mike Lane working for us! Please vote, either early or on November 2.
