Letters to the Editor: Endorsing Amanda Kirchgessner

I’m writing to endorse Amanda Kirchgessner in her race for the 58th District of the New York State Senate. As a member of the Ithaca Common Council and chair of the City of Ithaca’s Planning and Economic Development Committee, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to see Amanda in action. As an activist, she has been a consistent voice for working people and has pressed the city and county governments to build more affordable housing, create more living wage jobs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and protect local workers. I’ve been impressed by Amanda’s intelligence, her passion, and her outspokenness.

If she becomes our State Senator, Amanda has promised she will move the state towards renewable energy, push for equitable school-funding, and work to enact universal healthcare. These are solid, bread-and-butter issues that New Yorkers of all political stripes should be able to get behind. Our current State Senator, Tom O’Mara, is a wealthy conservative whose outside legal practice has led to various conflicts of interest that have been repeatedly called out in the media. It’s time to send a real fighter for working New Yorkers to the State Senate. I hope you’ll join me in supporting Amanda Kirchgessner.
