Linda Competillo seeks to continue her service on the Groton Central School Board of Education. She has spent the greater part of the past 22 years on this board, taking every opportunity to learn all that she can about the district and the educational processes of New York State; deepening her high regard for the responsibility this position carries.

Since 2006, Competillo has consistently served as Groton’s representative on the Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES (TST) Board of Education, which she finds invaluable to her ability to best serve all in the district. She is currently the president of the TST board and has been for the past six years.

Competillo has lived in Groton since 1981, when her husband, Mike, and she relocated from Buffalo, NY. The Competillos have two sons who are Groton graduates, and two grandchildren who are on course to become Groton alumni in 2031 and 2033!

Professionally, Competillo has been employed at Cornell University for the past 33 years, working directly with Cornell parents in her current position. She is also a member of Groton Assembly of God church, and writes the weekly column, “Groton on the Inside” in the Tompkins Weekly newspaper.

Competillo’s exposure to academia, involvement in the community, and consistent pursuit of school board professional development affords her a well-rounded approach to board service. She is committed to the hard work required to do this job well and dedicates a great deal of her time and personal resources to achieve that end.

Competillo believes that what matters most is being an elected official who stands in the gap for our children and regards faculty and staff in esteem for the brilliant work they do, while also balancing the needs of the taxpayers in the community. This takes time, energy, common sense, and commitment. It also requires a shared vision for the district’s future that is practical and strategic.

Voting for the candidates will take place Tuesday, May 20 from 12 to 9 p.m. at the Groton High School District Office, 400 Peru Rd.
