Local residents to join groups across the country for ‘No Kings’ rally
Local residents join the No Kings rally in Ithaca on Oct. 18, taking part in a nationwide protest promoting democracy and civic engagement.

Protestors at the last “No Kings” rally in Ithaca in June.
Indivisible Tompkins will join thousands of grassroots groups across the country in hosting a “No Kings” rally and march on Oct. 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. beginning in Washington Park. Predicted to be the largest nationwide protest in U.S. history, this event is a reprise of the “No Kings” gatherings held in June 2025.
Indivisible Tompkins Steering Committee member Ken McKinney says, “We’re standing
up for democracy because in America, we don’t do kings.”
A program of speakers, music, and art will aim to inspire local residents to make their voices
heard in support of democracy and against any form of authoritarianism.
Indivisible Tompkins will host information tables where attendees can learn how to get
more involved in the pro-democracy movement.
Voter registration services will be provided. Merchandise will be for sale to raise funds to cover the costs of the event.
The event will culminate with a march down Court St. to S. Meadow St., where people
will line the busy street with their signs, bodies, and voices proclaiming “Power belongs
to the people in the U.S.A.!”
Highlights:
● Local musician Maddy Walsh and her band will lend their voices to the call to
protect our democracy
● State Assemblymember Anna Kelles will speak about urgent NYS priorities
and actions people can take to help bring them about
● Other Speakers will address how freedom of speech, data, and science affect
local economies, labor, and the well-being of communities, and also lessons
learned from successfully obtaining a restraining order against the illegal
deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles this summer
● The Resisters Chorus and Rhythms of Resistance will energize and unify the
crowd
● Local artists Wild Women for Justice will present UNMASK ICE, an ensemble
of 13 intimidating parade puppets that reveals the true impact of ICE police on
our communities and our country
● Children’s activities will engage the next generation of Americans
● A “honk and wave” on S. Meadow St. will be visible to drivers and passers-by
● A peaceful, family-friendly event welcoming all who believe in “government of
the people, by the people, for the people”
