Resources to stay active in the colder months

While we still have some warm days ahead, the leaves are changing and fall is here. The Taughannock Park and Black Diamond trails are still open, but colder weather looms in the near future, and for those of us who prefer indoor recreation, Trumansburg offers several options.

The Mosaic Studio Collective recently opened in the old Felecia’s building located at 45 E. Main St. According to its website, “We do have doors facing Main Street, but these doors enter directly into our practice space, so for most classes and workshops, we do ask that you enter from the back of the building. Follow the signs to our purple door.”

In addition, the website states that the studio is a safe and welcoming space for all students.

“We welcome different body types, ages and ability levels,” according to the website. “We aim to offer refuge from the stresses of daily life in a neutral space where you can heal, learn and gather with other community members. Come as you are and find your way back to your source.”

Mosaic offers classes in Anusara, Kundalini, Vinyasa and restorative yoga, pilates, dance and Qi-Gong. It offers workshops and individual consultation in Ayurveda, meditation, advanced Asana, therapeutics, dance, energy work, creativity and communication. To learn more about these and other programs, visit mosaicstudiocollective.com.

Lakshmi Living arts offers yoga practice on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:05 to 9:20, with Anusara yoga on Tuesday and all levels on Thursday. Saturday morning themed Anusara yoga is held from 9:00 to 10:15. Lakshmi also offers other events and workshops to encourage whole-body and mind wellness. Look for these on their website at http://lakshmilivingarts.org.

For those looking for more aerobic and strength training options, T-fit fitness is a 24-hour a day option. Located at 61 West Main St. near Atlas Bowl, T-fit offers personal training, equipment, programs and classes.

Equipment includes Precor and Startrac treadmills, Precor and LifeFitness ellipticals, steppers, Cybex arc trainer, recumbent and spinning bikes, and a rowing machine. Classes include Vinyasa yoga, Dragon’s Way Qi Gon, Zumba fitness and toning, cardio dance and Muay Thai.

Programs are run through neighboring McCune and Murphy physical therapy, in which one-time physical therapy consultation, a physical therapy transitional program, and ageless agility and fitness program are offered. Use of the equipment and showers requires a membership, and classes are open to the public for a fee. Fees and class descriptions can be found at t-fitfitness.com.

Registration for fall classes with the Trumansburg Community Education Program, which is run through the school district, has passed, but keep it in mind for the cold and dreary winter months. Adult classes and leagues include futsal, men’s basketball, competitive and recreational volleyball, Zumba, dance aerobics and body toning. Follow the schedule and registration at http://www.tburgschools.org.

In Brief:

Rotary Restaurant Week

Rotary International has been on the frontlines fighting the scourge of polio through immunizations worldwide for 35 years. The goal is to eradicate it completely, and we are so very close. The entire African continent is about to be declared polio-free. And only two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan, still have some cases. Widespread immunization is the only way our goal will be reached, as we send Rotary volunteers into cities and rural areas to immunize every child.

The U.S. district that includes Trumansburg’s club, District 7170, has organized a Restaurant Week, Oct. 20 to 26, and several of our generous restaurateurs have joined us, pledging a percentage of their gross income for a specific meal on a particular day during that week. Others have provided sponsorship contributions. Please patronize these generous restaurant owners and contribute to the fight to end polio worldwide.

Participating Restaurants:

  • Monday, Oct. 21, 5 to 9 p.m.: Hazelnut Kitchen donates a percentage of dinner receipts
  • Tuesday, Oct. 22, 4 to 9 p.m.: Little Venice donates a percentage of dinner proceeds and Atlas Bowl sponsors “Pins for Polio” 4 to 9 p.m., donating all bowling proceeds
  • Thursday, Oct. 24, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Glenwood Pines donates a percentage of lunch proceeds

Brews & Brats also provided a sponsorship, and The Falls Restaurant provided a major sponsorship.

Please patronize these generous folks and help us end this crippling scourge worldwide.

Fallen soldiers honored at Homecoming football game

The Trumansburg American Legion, Trumansburg Police and Fire Departments, sports boosters, school administration and fans gathered together to honor fallen soldiers and Trumansburg alumni Sgt. James G. Johnson and SFC Ethan Carpenter in a ceremony before the game.

The families of the soldiers were present to receive flowers, and seniors athletes across teams were present in Hawaiian shirts to stand alongside the families during the National Anthem. The Trumansburg community continues to stand in support of the families of the fallen soldiers.
