Rotary club grants January’s Service Above Self award
Skye Georgiadis, a high school sophomore, has been awarded Trumansburg Rotary Club’s Service Above Self award for January.
The Rotary Club’s Service Above Self award was created to recognize students in the Trumansburg Central School District, including those who are home-schooled, who exemplify Rotary’s motto, “service above self,” and who live Rotary’s “four-way test” in their everyday lives.

The test asks the following questions: Of the things we think, say or do: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Georgiadis was nominated by her former English teacher, Rebecca Czajkowski.
“Skye is a formidable student, and a social force to reckon with,” wrote Czajkowski in her nomination.
“While I had the opportunity to teach her English 9 course last year, I’m nominating Skye this year because I’ve seen nothing but growth from an already positive presence in our community.”
Czajkowski stated that her former student exemplified the Rotary motto, “service above self,” and passed the “four-way test” with flying colors. She explained that Georgiadis has a keen awareness of others and selflessness.

The sophomore is involved in the Femtastics Club and Global Humanism group and has demonstrated initiative with the resources of the STEAM program. She also organized a story slam for community members.
“My goal in nominating Skye is to recognize and praise her efforts, highlighting them as a model for other high school-aged students in a post-pandemic academic environment,” Czajkowski wrote. “It is becoming increasingly rare to see the drive, autonomy, and passion that a student like Skye has for her community work.”
Anyone in the community who knows a prospective nominee is encouraged to send in a nomination. Program guidelines and a nomination form are available under “Service Above Self Award” on the Trumansburg Rotary Club website, tburgrotary.org.
Each monthly winner receives a $50 gift certificate to the Trumansburg business of their choice. At the end of the school year, a student is selected from the group to receive a $1,000 award. Georgiadis chose New York Pizzeria in Trumansburg for her certificate.
