They say that you don’t have to be under a quilt to feel its warmth. For 50 years the Tompkins County Quilters Guild has been sharing the warmth, beauty, and joy of quilts and quiltmaking across our community and far beyond through their widely attended Traditions and Beyond Quilt Shows.
There will be 200 quilts in a variety of styles and colors to view at the Tompkins County Quilter’s Guild 50 Years of Traditions and Beyond 2025 Quilt Show, coming this fall on Sept. 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tompkins Cortland Community College Field House in Dryden.

The work of 40 TCQG members creating blocks and well over one hundred hours went into stitching the “Flying to the Stars” 2025 TCQG Show Raffle Quilt See the quilt and purchase tickets on Saturday, July 19, 12 to 2 p.m. at Quilters Corner’s 30th Birthday Celebration at 518 W. State St., Ithaca.
In addition to both traditional and contemporary quilts, 50 Years of Traditions and Beyond will feature a display of quilted wearables with beautiful pieced and appliqued jackets, and more. A Vendor Mall with 13 vendors will offer a wide variety of quilt related supplies and items, from Barn Quilts to quilt jewelry crafted from wood, patterns and quilt fabric galore. There will also be hundreds of gently-used quilt books for sale, from beginner to expert.
There will also be chances to win the stunning “Flying to the Stars” show raffle quilt, and a silent auction of close to 100 small quilts, all made by members of the TCQG,
A special display and ongoing slide show at the 50 Years of Traditions and Beyond 2025 Quilt Show commemorates 50 years of quilt shows put on by the Tompkins County Quilter’s Guild, starting with the 1976 Finger Lakes Bicentennial Quilt Exhibit. The 1976 weeklong quilt extravaganza featured over 600 quilts and events and exhibits all across Ithaca. It was one of the largest quilt exhibits in the country at that time, and is broadly recognized as influential in the national quilt revival. The Quilt Exhibit drew more than 8,000 visitors and quilters from across the country as well as international attendees from 32 countries.

“Loon Family” is an original pattern and quilt created by fabric artist Elsie P.L.Dentes. It will be featured on display at Ithaca’s Downtown Visitor’s Center at 110 N. Tioga St. Ithaca, in July and August leading up to the TCQG Quilt Show.
