Spooky season comes alive across Tompkins County

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate this Halloween, Tompkins County has trunk-or-treats for the kids, special trick-or-treating locations, and parties for the grown-ups, too. 

As the final weekend of October approaches, towns throughout Tompkins County gear up for a series of Halloween-themed events and trick-or-treat opportunities. From village streets to community centers, here’s what’s happening:

Danby
Danby Volunteer Fire Company Halloween PartyNov. 1 at 1 p.m. at 1780 Danby Rd. Get your picture taken in a spooky fire truck. Costumes are encouraged, treats and prizes will be given out, and there will be festive activities including donuts on a string, witch hat ring toss, a Halloween sack race, zombie bowling, Halloween bean bag toss, toilet paper mummy wrap and more.

Dryden
Halloween Party at the Dryden HotelOct. 31 at 6 p.m. With a costume contest and live music by Dan Z. and Pompey Joe, don’t miss the chills, thrills and fun. Located at 42 W. Main St.
Hay rides at Dryden Fire DepartmentOct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Neptune Hose Company #1, 26 N. St., will be holding its annual hay rides with cider and donuts provided by the Dryden American Legion. There will be no haunted house event this year. If anyone would like to participate in a safe Trunk-or-treat in the parking lot from 6 to 8 p.m., please sign up by sending an e-mail to info@dryden.org with your name, address, phone number and vehicle license plate.

Enfield
Trunk-or-TreatOct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Enfield Community Building, 162 Enfield Main Rd. Bring your treats and/or your family to this safe event in the parking lot. Those giving out candy are encouraged to bring food and drinks to share with the other “trunkers.”

Groton
Truck-or-TreatOct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 101 Conger Blvd. The line starts at the Village Garage on the Spring Street end of the road. The recreation department will be collecting non-perishable items for the Groton Community Cupboard.
Stonehedges Golf Course Halloween PartyOct. 31 at 7 p.m. at 549 Stevens Rd. Enjoy drink specials, a costume contest, and more.

Ithaca
Haunted History in Downtown Ithaca — Oct. 29 and Oct. 30 at 6 and 7:30 p.m., starting at 110 N. Tioga St. This 75‑minute walking tour explores downtown Ithaca’s haunted landmarks, sharing chilling stories of crime, tragedy, and mysterious happenings from the city’s past.
Trick or Treat with (U)Us!Oct. 31 at 5:30 p.m. at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca, 306 N Aurora St. Children (5 and older) are invited to join, followed by trick-or-treating around the Fall Creek neighborhood. Children age 5 and older may be dropped off, while children under 5 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
GIAC Halloween SpooktacularOct. 31 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Greater Ithaca Activities Center, 301 W Court St. Activities include trunk-or-treating, pumpkin painting, spooky gym games, pumpkin-chunkin’, costumed basketball and candy, plus snacks like cider and chili — all taking place inside the center and on Court Street between N. Albany St. and N. Plain St.
GreenStar Food Co+op Trick-or-TreatOct. 31 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at 770 Cascadilla St. Put on your costumes and bring the kids to trick-or-treat around the store. The co-op will provide a Station Map at the entrance so visitors can follow the path to various stations for healthy snacks, candy, and fun non-food items. This event is free.
Liquid State Brewing Company Halloween Dance PartyOct. 31 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 620 W Green St. DJ Tuggle is back again; don’t miss the costumes, dancing, photo booth, and drinks! Must be over 21 years old to attend. 

Lansing
9th Annual Lansing Community Trunk or TreatOct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Park, 1 Lansing Park Rd. Take a stroll through Trunk Alley to gather treats and goodies from sponsors, enjoy some refreshments, and vote for your favorite trunks and pumpkins from the pumpkin carving contest! A free, advanced, reserved time slot is required for admittance. When you register, you are registering for your entire party. Newfield
Return of the Haunted HoedownNov. 1 at 8 p.m. at the Seabring Inn, 330 Sebring Rd. There will be music by Tail Light Rebellion and Levi and the Wranglers. Come for the costume contest, great tunes and amazing food.

Trumansburg
Trumansburg American Legion Halloween PartyOct. 31 at 6:30 p.m. at 4443 E. Seneca Rd. The Band Called Revival will be playing — experience the energy of this 14-piece band and enjoy a night of food, drinks and dancing for all ages. There will be prizes for costumes. $10 cash cover.
Garrett’s Annual Halloween Costume PartyOct. 31 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Garrett’s Brewing Company, 1 West Main St. Participants are encouraged to wear their best costumes to join in the festivities featuring music, dancing, and a lively Halloween atmosphere. Must be at least 21 years old to attend.
