Morticia and Gomez, their eccentric family and household, all were inspired by the wonderfully strange work of artist Charles Addams, who drew hundreds of cartoons, mainly for New Yorker magazine, during his long career. Many of us can still sing, from memory, the words to the theme song from the very first Addams Family TV show! Less widely known is that for every cartoon that featured his now-iconic Family, Addams drew many, many cartoons that featured other oddball individuals, lots of eccentric monsters, and, very often, ordinary people caught up in extraordinary situations. At the meeting on 12/2/2025 of the Comic Book Club of Ithaca, we will take a look at some of these other, but equally wonderfully strange, works by Charles Addams.
So, whether you first encountered Addams's work this season on Netflix, or have been re-reading the cartoon collections for decades, drop by the Comic Book Club meeting on 12/2 for a look at some of the other wondrous characters from the Addams Family Album!
The Comic Book Club of Ithaca — the oldest continuously running comic book club in the country — is a registered non-profit organization. The Club meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, and meetings are free and open to pop culture fans of all ages. For more information, see the Club's website at comicbookclub.org, which includes links to the Club's Facebook page, and to other events such as Ithacon, the annual comic book convention.
