Thanks in large part to the Marvel movies, Captain America has become an easily recognizable character across the globe. But the transformed Steve Rogers was not the only comic-book hero to wear the red, white, and blue … or even the first! At the meeting on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the Comic Book Club of Ithaca will host an early celebration of the 4th by taking a look at characters such as The Shield, Liberty Belle, and Miss America, as well as the good Captain!
The Comic Book Club of Ithaca — the oldest continuously running comic book club in the country — is a registered non-profit organization. The Club meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, and meetings are free and open to pop culture fans of all ages. For more information, see the Club’s website at comicbookclub.org, which includes links to the Club’s Facebook page, and to other events such as ITHACON, the local, annual comic book convention.
