The Cornell Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble join forces to present The Nutcracker Suite x 2! Alternating movements, the CSO performs Tchaikovsky’s orchestral music from the ballet, and the Jazz Ensemble responds with Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s arrangement. The orchestra also welcomes guest violist Kimberly Sparr as the soloist in composer D. J. Sparr’s Extended Play Viola Concerto (collegiate premiere) and opens the concert with Dvorak’s Carnival Overture. The Jazz Ensemble also performs an arrangement of Jimi Hendrix’s “Up from the Skies.” Free advance tickets!
